Thinking about elections

Mike McWherterIt’s really time to begin thinking about elections. If you know me, you know that I’m convinced that most people need to worry more about local elections than state or national races… All politics are local, and your alderpeople, commissioners, and mayors will likely have the most impact on your day to day life. Thankfully, at least in our area, almost everyone has an opportunity to meet their local candidates; you could probably Bill Haslameven ask them to meet you and some friends for supper or a get-together. Please make a point to register to vote and meet your local candidates.

That being said, it’s an important time in Tennessee – in November, we’ll elect our next Governor. I’m a big fan of Phil Bredesen. Not because he’s a democrat (I generally lean right of center), but because I truly think he’s got Tennessee’s best interests at heart.

Our next governor will steer our state through some of the toughest economics times we’re likely to face. It’s an important choice. I firmly believe that we should treat government like a business… I couldn’t tell you, yet, who I’ll vote for, but I’m picking favorites.

Here are two vides from some of my favorites:

Who are your picks? Who do you favor?

I started off with Jim Kyle, then he bailed, so I am with McWherter now. He’s not as left as I would like, but he’ll do. I tend to think Haslam might frustrate the GOP base the Bredesen did the Democratic base, but he’s got to win the primary first.

I am not as sure of a Haslam victory in the GOP primary as I once was.

I agree about Haslam and the republican base… So too with McWherter. I think McWherter may be a bit more left of center than Haslam is right. Would you say they’re both “moderates”, at least in their parties? If so, that may be what I like about them. :D
