The CSS Hunley: A special grill for special occasions.
I was off work a few days last week on a “staycation” and traveled around West Tennessee with Dad, Mom, and Samuel. Wednesday was our civil war day (pics available here); we visited Shiloh National Military Park and the CSS Hunley (even though it was closed) at the Discovery Museum of West Tennessee.
Earlier in the week, Tori sent several of an email summarizing a conversation she overheard (her office is very near the Discovery Museum):
As I was walking from the parking lot to the office I walked past a couple that had stopped on the sidewalk and was staring at the submarine in wonder. It is long and black and it has many panels removed from the sides so you can see inside. I, too, have been looking at the "contraption" all day. It is tiny! I can’t imagine the men in this tiny "tin can" for hours. As I am walking past them I overhear their conversation. The guy said, "Wow! What a grill!" The woman replies, "It’s a special grill used on special occasions. You can see they can easily serve buffet style."
When we visited, all the covers (or hatches or whatever) were in place, so we couldn’t see inside the Hunley. Still, even without reading the informational plaques and signs, it’s obvious to me that it’s a submarine.
What do you think? Would you confuse that thing with a “buffet style” grill?

Okay, okay… From a distance *perhaps* it looks like a grill….
