You’re a what?

People from Memphis are called “Memphians” (or maybe “Memphibians” in jest).

We’re all from Tennessee, we’re Tennesseans.

Folks from Jackson are Jacksonians, those from Kenton are Kentonians or maybe “Kentonites”.

If you’re from Afghanistan, you’re an Afghan (like the quilt), not an Afghani (which is apparently a unit of currency).

I have a friend in Moscow, he’s a Muscovite.

I’m from Dyer… I’m a Dyerian. And if you pronounce that word like we pronounce that word, it’s funny. Let me try to render it phonetically: dye-er-ee-an

Say that fast… dye-er-ee-an

Now laugh. You know you want to.

How about “Son of a ……gun from old Peck Switch”?

When you’re climbing up the ladder and you feel something go splatter, “dye-er-ee-a.” Yes, that was in bad taste, but I felt it only necessary.

Q: What do you call a word that describes where you are from?
A: a Demonym (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demonym)

I challenge you to find another demonym to describe our geographical origins.
